Hispanic Heritage Center of Texas

Fact Sheet

Texas Tejano.com, along with other community and state leaders, is pleased to present the concept of the Hispanic Heritage Center of Texas. This project is being offered to champion the true lives and legacies of Texas Tejanos. Tejanos are the descendants of the first Spanish, Mexican and indigenous families on the Texas frontier. Since Texas early beginnings, Tejanos created the first roads, towns, ranches and laws. To date, very little has been done to bring about a very long overdue honor to these unsung heroes.

Since our founding five years ago, Texas Tejano.com has lobbied many leading Tejanos and Texans to help envision this facility, which would be located in San Antonio. As a result, we are very proud to provide the leadership to create a Center that will begin to research and capture the lost legacy and Tejano heritage. The Center will have museum space, an auditorium, meeting space, world-class research library, archival storage, classrooms and multimedia facilities to tell the complete story of Texas and Tejanos.

The purpose of the center will be to educate students and the general public, elevate and celebrate the Texas Hispanic experience. Also, programs consisting of acquisition, publications, education, research, film, oral histories, traveling exhibits, Internet communications will be supported to accomplish the mission and goals of the center. Outreach and communications will be a primary goal to benefit the Hispanic community.

In conclusion, we believe one of the most important contributions made in this era will be the reality of this Hispanic Heritage Center of Texas. All Hispanics from all over the state of Texas will benefit and have accessibility to its services and products. Also, Hispanics of all walks of life will be able to contribute to the success of the Center.

Lastly, this will be a public space to be enjoyed by all Texans and future Tejanos. It was once said that Texas history can never be complete without the story of the Tejanos being told. We hope you will also feel the importance and timing of this great effort and decide to join us as we make Texas Tejano History. For more information please contact us at www.TexasTejano.com.
