“A Texas Tejano Son of Texas”

The life story of Jose Policarpio “Polly” Rodriguez (1829-1914) as dictated to the Rev. D.W. Carter, D.D., from 1892-1897. The first manuscript was edited by G.B. Winton and published circa 1900 by the Methodist Episcopal Church South in Nashville, Tenn. This publication has been reproduced in its original format and has not been edited grammatically.

The life story of Polly begins with his birth in 1829 in Mexico and follows his real-life adventures in early Texas. Throughout the twenty-two chapters, Polly’s life is described in his own words and follows his experiences as a hunter, scout, guide, rancher, elected official and minister. This is a unique and positive story that will enlighten and delight those who wish to understand the lives of early Texas Tejanos.
